Dr. Gamini Wijesuriya’s contributions are extensive and impactful, both in his home country Sri Lanka and internationally. In acknowledgement he received the 2021 ICCROM Award, and in his acceptance speech, he recognised the “voices of Asia and other regions of the world that for too long went unheard in many international arenas.”

Dr. Wijesuriya is an architect, archaeologist, and heritage management specialist whose career spans over four decades. He is a pioneer in living heritage and people-centred approaches, and served  as Special Advisor to the Director-General of ICCROM and advising  the Director of WHITRAP Shanghai, and as a UNESCO Facilitator for the Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention.
