In 2014, Maya Allison helped found the Art Galleries at NYU Abu Dhabi, including a museum venue and a project space, which support exhibitions as means for communal knowledge-production. As a contemporary art curator, her focus is on installation art and vanguard art communities.
She has authored and edited multiple studies of UAE and Gulf art history, as well as monographs on Syrian-American sculptor Diana Al-Hadid, and Swiss installation artist Zimoun. Allison curated the UAE pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennial, for the artist Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim.
Before relocating to the UAE, she held curatorial posts at The RISD Museum and at Brown University’s Bell Gallery, and directed the annual Pixilerations art festival.
