About
The General Conference in Dubai marks a special occasion in ICOM Nord’s history, as the regional alliance expands to include the Baltic National Committees. Until now it’s been an alliance of the national committees of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and Finland. With the inclusion of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, the alliance will grow to 8 committees from Northern European countries. In this assembly, we will introduce to our members the renewing structure of the RA and required statutory changes. This will be an occasion to outline the RA’s future activities and our role within the ICOM network. In addition, there will be a keynote presentation by the chair of ICOM Norway, Atle Ove Martinussen. The talk will touch on the theme of Norway’s bid to host the 2028 General Conference: “In Museums We Trust?” This theme gives us the opportunity to explore and debate various dimensions of museum professional core questions connected to our role in society and the basis for public trust. In this way we want to shed light on how changes in the museum definition alongside changes in society will influence the status and role of museums, and how museums may contribute to critical reflections on such changes. The second presentation is by Elina Nygård. She talks about Indigenous people in Europe. The event will end in a panel discussion by the chairs of NC’s about the ICOM Statement of Peace.
