About
An Ongoing Dialogue in Shared Custodianship and Collaborative Museological Practices In this session, we would like to focus on the practice of regional and community-based museums that have been created, owned, and managed by Indigenous groups, local organizations and the civil society. We invite participants to share how the museum institution is reinventing its ethos through the creation of small and medium scale institutions, particularly located in Oceania, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa. This session explores the way collaborative practices strengthen alternative ways of being and doing, communities’ identities and capacity for self-determination. We are interested in a dialogue around how shared custodianship and shared authority can be a means to defend identities and people’s existence. ——————– An Ongoing Dialogue in Shared Custodianship and Collaborative Museological Practices Thursday, 13th November 2025, 14:30 – 16:00 Moderator: Dr Bruno Brulon Soares (University of St. Andrews/SOMUS) Moderator: Heidi McKinnon (Curators Without Borders/ICME Board) 14:30 – 14:35   Introduction 14:35 – 14:45   Wan-Ping Chen (National Taiwan Museum): ‘We Know’ to ‘We’d Like to Know’: Reimagining Museum Authority through Multicultural Dialogue 14:45 – 14:55   Bouthayna Baltaji and Ajmal Maiwandi (Qatar Museums): From Storage to Story: Reimagining the Wooden Doors of Qatar’s Heritage 14:55 – 15:05   Dr. Indrani Bhattacharya (University of Calcutta): Continuing Dialogue in Collective Custodianship and Collaborative Museological Practices with Special Reference to India 15:05 – 15:15   Jane Maren M.
